Home State Pokédex

Back in the middle of 2023, my local-ish convention had a fan panel on creating Pokémon based in the state. As someone who reads con schedules before I get to the con itself, I discussed the concept with my friends on the drive up. And again when I met up with more friends at the con, this time able to scribble down the ideas as they came. This list included regional variants, original and returning Pokémon, and gym leader ideas.

I then put the idea away becuase I was working on another project at the time.

Now, armed with Bulbapedia↗, I have returned to it. I need something to keep me occupied at work.

A Rough Idea for Typing

March 11, 2025

Before I began drawing, I wanted to have an idea for how many of each type will be in the Pokédex. To simplify this, I mostly counted Pokémon as their primary type. However, secondary Fairy, Steel, Dark, and Ghost overruled their primary types. Normal/Flying was counted as Flying and Water/Ice was counted as Ice. Some other duel types were counted as I personally consider them. This was not a scientific process.

I tallied Pokémon found in the Kanto (151), Unova (155), and Galar (400) Pokédexes because I like them the most. Totals for Galar were multiplied by 3/8 to bring the number down to 150-ish. The three numbers for each type were then averaged to give me the final count:

Normal
10
Fire
10
Water
18
Electric
8
Grass
12
Ice
7
Fighting
8
Poison
7
Ground
6
Flying
8
Psychic
10
Bug
10
Rock
7
Ghost
8
Dragon
7
Dark
7
Steel
7
Fairy
5
TOTAL
155

This is not something I'm going to rigidly hold myself to, just a ballpark to aim for. If I don't have some constraints I will be paralyzed with possibility.
